I bought mine for $100. New.

The retail price is only a benchmark. You can find what you want secondhand or on sale or new with tags on ebay. I waited for a sale at a brick & mortar store and snapped it up.

Get this instead. Or something like it, they do a four pocket hunting coat every season.

A lot of Donwan Harrel's personal mythology is tied up in veterans returning from WW2 and coming home to create the foundation of underground car culture. That's where the workwear roots come in, the oil stains and pin holes and the mission to finally do distressed denim right by leaving parts of the jean raw so that the natural fades blend into the pre-existing ones.
By delving into heritage and workwear, Harrell's come across a lot of strange designs. He lifts stuff from utilitarian garments that the average person doesn't see. I think the brand has a language all its own, or at least one that stands out enough to warrant further inspection. Every season seems to be a take on a different profession, with nautical and diving themes for this SS13. I also see older themes being revisited - SS12 was all about vintage fly fishing apparel and the shorts you noticed would have fit right in.
Have you ever heard about what Abercrombie & Fitch was like back in the day? How they had a huge store with a floor for each different type of terrain? Thousands of jackets and pants for specialized situations, manufactured using the methods of a bygone age. They sold the techwear of that era. That is the very specific sort of niche that Prps is exploring, and I think the foundation for some of their visual language.
