Why is Guerlain vetiver so good and why is it hated here?.

It’s all so tiresome. Masculine fragrances (like everything else) have been corrupted by globohomo by convincing men that a type of fragrance can/will attract women (an inversion of the sexual roles, where men appeal to women through bodily performance rather than competence and provision). That's not to say that dark, heavy, rugged, mossy aromas are less masculine or even equally masculine as the modern sweet gourmands or lipsticky iris 'office' scents. Of course they're more masculine/less feminine, this doesn't need teasing out; dry buttery sandalwoods, mosses, resins etc are not as feminine as iris/violet.

Heritage and Jicky share a similar lavender note. Heritage and l’instant homme share a similar sandalwood note. vetiver extreme is the “young” version of vetiver without the tobacco note and with an incense note. Habit rouge is best in its edc form and is very interesting and of high quality. Habit rouge leau is the “young” version of habit rouge. It loses its leather and civet notes and keeps it clean throughout. Additionally, the rose is replaced with jasmine. Shalimar and habit rouge share the vanilla tonka dry down. Jicky, shalimar, and mitsouko are feminine fragrances by design but are passing as masculine. Shalimar extrait is very nice, the only problem is that a lot of people know it is a feminine fragrance. Mitsouko and derby share the oakmoss dry down. Coriolan is discontinued but is still readily available and is a great fresh fragrance with oakmoss.

That was my go at lavender. But forgot to mention Caron le3 and Guerlain heritage for great lavenders. But now to go on about Guerlain. Guerlain habit rouge leau is a nice summer cheapy. But it pales kn comparison to Guerlain habit rouge edc vintage. Guerlain homme boisse is like Terre de Hermes but younger because of the burnt orange being replaced by mint mojito. Guerlain Coriolan is a great summer freshy. One last summer freshy by Guerlain is Guerlain vetiver. Things only get worse. Look at architecture, music, movies, and literature. Stick with classics and you’ll be fine.
