Also, try to figure out what you'll wear underneath before measurements so you can give them an accurate estimate (i.e. I want to wear a single t-shirt underneath...or......I want to wear a thick woolen sweater (like a submariner or something) underneath). These kinds of things matter, and the last thing you want is to order something non-refundable that doesn't fit and that a tailor can't fix (like you got it too small or something).

No matter what, a coat like this will be a statement piece of a kind, unless you got it all black without any lettering (though the fur collar might catch the eye a bit). You can either dress extreme to make the coat look subdued, or you can dress subdued to highlight the coat.

The other thing you can consider is whether or not this coat will be truly functional. Though Anons here will forever gripe about my long coat, it was bought with functionality first and foremost, and has served that function well. If your Blade Runner long coat actually serves the function (keep out the cold, keep out the rain, for moderate to cold climates and perhaps even snow), then no one will say boo. The worst thing that can happen is if you live in a climate where snow is a myth, cold weather is when you put away the sandals, and an overcast sky is during a tornado watch.

The jacket doesn't make you K, and you don't have to look like him. Just make sure it is fitted excellently...then the rest will come together. Good luck.

Yeah, took a break, life has changed significantly over the past two weeks (in a good way), and I thought I'd take one last final breath before the plunge. Congrats on the new purchase....does it fit well? I've always found it tough to find things from the 70's that fit me....I think because I'm just not as close to the average fit back then. But for some strange reason I can fit anything from the 50's....

Aww, you're getting closer man. You know what gives it away though? I never capitalize '/fa/' because it's simply incorrect. Similarly, I don't use the Trumpian close (short and pointed) of 'so sad.' I try to help people as much as I can, and I take imitation always as flattery, because it means I've made something of an impact (hopefully good, but no matter what, memorable). I'm glad you took one of the best shots of the jacket though....you could always have used the blue shirt experiments.....

What would you like to know Anon? Are you looking to purchase a leather jacket in general, and want to know the in's and out's of what to look out for before you drop 500+ on a jacket that might not suit or fit you, or do you want to know specifically about this long coat?

A few things just to start.

I wore this out last night, and in truth it didn't make that much of an impact. No one stared at me on the subway, no one stared at me in the pub, no one beat the shit out of me for wearing a videogame jacket...the bottom line was that wearing it in public didn't actually matter. As I mentioned in a post on the other thread about odd jackets that people wish they could wear, the only one who asked me about this was a female who I know, and whom I would guess only wanted to know if SR make one in a woman's pattern (because she's never seen a design like this before and also obviously because her fake leather rain jacket is shredding to shit).

The main point I wanted to make was that if the jacket fits you and is an extension of your personality, then it really doesn't come into the equation whether or not to wear something like this. The issue which I think many of us will notice clearly is what happens when people get a jacket from a famous movie and put the rest of the costume together, even though it's not necessarily an extension of your personality. Getting a Scorpion jacket and dressing like Ryan Gosling in Drive, toothpick and all....or getting a Fight Club jacket and dressing like Tyler, bumblebee sunglasses and all. In some ways, it makes sense: either the person is emulating a character they admire, or they are following a costume designer's aesthetic that works on film...in both cases, it's 'safe' to do.

Unfortunately, it's still just playing a character, and thus the old adage of 'the jacket wearing you instead of you wearing the jacket'. So, you can definitely wear a jacket like this, but it has to be an honest extension of your personality (and note: PERSONALITY, not AESTHETIC...the two are different).

Now, onto a few details.
