To add, I remember Stowa has been caught as some offbrand chinkshit watch had Stowa stampings on their cases, the Stowa CEO admitting a big fucking nothing. People will bend the law as much as their can and push the profit margins as much as their marketing will allow them to.
This isnt exclusive to watches, or knives as you put, but any goods, doesnt even have to be luxury, only there the profit margins are exponentional.
I have worked in a milk processing plant, we used the same milk in cartons of a store-brand marque for say €.85, then the same milk in a highly reputable brand in a different print (same carton) for €2.
You need to be weary, and as written know your threshold. And at any rate, can you blame the companies? Would you not do the same, should you be in their positions, have a name to ride on, being able to produce whatever and people still paying you for it while giving you a 80%+ profit margin? Take any brand you like, ANY, Longines, Tissot, TAG, Omega, ze Germans. What is more disgusting, IWC or Panerai overcharging tenfolds for random ass china shit, or a microbrand charging 500 for a 100 worth of watch?

>Stowa flieger for 800
>Aristo for 500
>Tisell for 300
>San Martin for 200

Is it sad? Yes. Can we do anything against it? Maybe buy used for half the price, maybe buy replicas. There will still be enough customers to pay the full price without hesitation, so our point is moot.

We have to find our own peace of mind.

goddamn, I feel like my 40x14 is on the thicker side (I have a 43x14 that wears much better), but that must look ridiculous

Ah, there it is, the one sole argument of the diesel Audi driver. If you are so hung up on fishing for the ultimate, how can you even see yourself as a watch enthusiast? You will never ever reach it with one watch. There are so many different flavors and answers to questions (that noone asked) during a century of mechanical development, watches included, that picking ONE at the ultimate is bewilderingly stupid. You cannot possibly choose one to be the end all be all. If you wanted to go strictly factual, you could go several different ways even then. The ultimate robust everyday survival watch, the strongest diver, the ultimate precise chronograph, the ultimate dress piece, etc. Is the Santos the ultimate pilots watch? What about the Oysterquartz, what is it?

Enjoy your choices and let shitposter shitpost (including me).

>the way a watch makes your pp feel > everything else

Change my mind? You might try to rationalize one watch over another, but at the end of the day, personal appreciation and application should be first and foremost.
Mudman, Stowa Marine, terrorist casio, DA37, 556, Polerouter, Mickey, slavshit, mememaster, san martin, japshit folded over a zillion times to get a smooth sweeping seconds, vintage.

Stop giving a shit and enjoy things you enjoy and can afford for you own sake.

None of modern day mechanical horology is relevant. All of it is masturbation, dick waving and creating problems that need solving for the sake of complicating things for their own sake.

Go quartz and call it a day.

I remember him making a video in, say, 2018 about watches worn by famous mobsters, then stumbling upon an article with the same theme from 2016. Compearing the two, the vid was basically a transcript of the article with some pictures, some even from the article itself. Zero credits given.
