person who has owned both regular chucks and chuck 70s here.

70s are absolutely worth the price jump. The materials are noticeably better, (in my opinion) the chunkier sole gives the shoe a much more balanced look, and (most importantly) 70s are way comfier. I didn't find regular converse to be awful, but Chuck 70s are probably one of my comfiest shoes.
