There used to be more of these tribes like “gothic” that made some people label tumblr style “seapunk”, but I’m not into these names. The good thing about our generation is that we can do whatever we want every day; we don’t have the pressure to live in these tribes.

>Even if it’s empty, I think it’s relevant to part of what’s going on in society. I remember this quote of Anna Wintour saying, “In the moment of crisis everyone wants to have fun. I think when we are at a bad point for society economically and socially, that’s when people embrace fantasy and are looking to escape from their reality. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that the global financial crisis coincided with the rise of Lady Gaga in 2007 and 2008. You might know bad things are happening outside, but in your bedroom you want to have fun. So who cares if I’m mixing punk with cyber or whatever. My first collection commercially was in 2009 when I was still living in Barcelona, but it is only in the last year and a half that I have been able to work 100% for myself as a designer. So I’m now living my dream, and I want to give a little bit of hope to all the other people that are trying to do this.
