I'd recommend this photobook to anyone who wants realistic inspiration rather than carefully manicured depictions of expensive living places. The story is that the photographer would give friends a lift home and refuse any kind of compensation, except for permission to photograph the passenger's house then and there without giving them an opportunity to tidy up or hide anything. Obviously, they're all Japanese apartments or small houses and the photos are from shortly before or during 1993 when the first edition was published.
