hitlers mustache was symbolic? this is incorrect and also would go against what hitler believed in. the toothbrush mustache was an incredibly common military mustache especially for ex-WW1 soldiers (hint: Gas masks) and young servicemen / officers. Pic related is Orwell during his time in Burma in the 1920s
beards were common in military and only stopped because of gas masks and also that its more intimidating when you have a uniform rank of soldiers all with similar clean shaven faces. it establishes dominance and uniformity makes them look professional rather than a more rag tag fighting force
