The reason you don’t "get it" is because don’t identify with it. You are not black so there is really no way you can understand what it is like to be a black male in the U.S. This is almost entirely the subject matter in Kendrick’s music. That or you are approaching the music the same way you would a wiz khalifa song which is completely wrong.

if you want to get a good grasp on kendrick and on his growth as a rapper I recommend listening to the The heart part 1 part 2 and 3.All three songs were made at different points in Kendrick’s career and are the most clear cut example of Kendrick’s style.
