I have similar hair and similar routine. I'll try to write it more clearly:

Wash your hair up to twice a week with tea tree shampoo or something similar.
When washing hair, brush/comb before, not after. Don't scrub your hair with your towel either, pat or squeeze instead.
Always condition, and you can use conditioner even without washing your hair (up to every other day). Regardless, let it sit in your hair for 5-15 minutes before rinsing or brushing or styling.
