SOTD: Ambra Aurea. It's amazing how complex can be a fragrance literally containing only 3 notes: amber, myrrh and incense. My girlfriend commented that it smells of a salty, dark chocolate. Haven't heard this one yet. What are you wearing lads?

The material is too heavily diluted for anything close to that. If you want to smell the true beauty of ambergris in perfume form, in almost entirely solo fashion and in all its fantastic salty, marshy, quietly smoky, caramel-scented sweetness and sexy muskiness, then the gold standard for the genre is Profumum Roma‘s decadent, opulent Ambra Aurea. It’s hardly the only ambergris perfume that will be on my list, as you will see next time in Part II, but it is the very best and the very richest, so I wanted to mention it here for any of you who may have recoiled after all this whale talk.
Interesting, kafkasque also claims that it is an ambergris not amber fragrance.
