Modern watches (since mercury batteries were banned, may they rip) all use standard batteries. Some are better than others - silver oxide batteries generally perform better than alkaline, for example - but the supplied voltage makes them generally all compatible. It used to be that there were special batteries for high-current-draw watches, but that's not really an issue with modern batteries. The major factors are chemistry (silver oxide vs alkaline; again, they're generally compatible) and size (generally not compatible). Any decent mall jeweler will have all common sizes. Some watches (most notably the original accutron tuning fork watches) that were originally designed for 1.35v mercury cells have issues running with modern 1.5v cells, but generally it's not an issue.

Note how these modern batteries are "multi-drain" and are suitable replacements for both 371 and 370 batteries, which are the same size (one is the high-drain version and one is the low-drain version).
