Yep, the hedonic treadmill is empty, and a game no one wins. You sound a lot like me. I'm 39 and just want total peace of mind when it comes to personal finance, and once I have one million I will have it, given my spending habits. I drive a sixteen year old econobox, cook all my meals (Costco member since 2006), and get my entertainment for free from the library or pirating. At the end of the day all I really want is to go back in time and not fuck it up with the girl I should have married, I'd happily be $600k in debt for that chance, but since that's out of the question I just focus on financial security.
Nice job on getting that house, put everything you have into paying it off ASAP and you'll be a free man, or at least as free as a man can be given that taxes exist.

p,s, I'm still gonna buy a $500 watch anyway btw, just because I think it'd be a nice fashion accessory.
