Depending on your willingness to hunt sales/ buy used, those are always valid options.. I've been told that a1923 can get as low as $500, but that's probably still too much and doesn't happen too often, and even then a1923 in particular makes so many variants that finding the one you want would be difficult.

I would give Corcorans (pic) a fair shake if you're intent on going with a """budget""" option, though it's more accurate to say that a1923 and the like are just very expensive.
There are also a smattering of slightly-lower-cost-but-still-respectable ""artisianal""" options that ape the uber expensive brands. The big players that come to mind are The Last Conspiracy, Marsell, Premiata, and a few others that I'm probably forgetting right now.
