From personal experience, a lot of them do hold a bit of emotional baggage but not necessarily something hinders their ability to socialize and act like normal human beings. If anything, the drastic change in their outwards appearance is just a part of their growth as a person and exploration. As for the emotional baggage, everyone carries with them trauma and though it seems intimidating at first, talking everything out and taking down each other’s walls to come closer is a necessary step in a relationship that you more or less naturally go through as you progress through said relationship
