Honestly, if the shipping wasn't absolutely horrendous I'd suggest Chevalier's. Massdrop did a drop recently where 60 people got them for $220 shipping included, but it'll probably be a while before that happens again. If you're in the U.S. the shipping alone makes it almost $300 from what I remember.

Anyone have experience with the Chevalier Captoe Chromexcel boot?

I was looking for something in the 200-300 range that had a slim profile, and this was in the mark.

Iron Rangers and Wolverines are too bulky for my tastes.

About the footbed, the only other boot that I've encountered that had such cushioning was a pair of RMW chelsea comfort craftsmans, and these chevalier's are doubly so cushioned. We'll see how these hold up to a proper pounding over the next few months.
I bought some leather Red Wing laces to replace the stock ones, which are not bad, I just wanted some leather ones for once. I'll get those on when I figure out how long I want them since RW really sells them really long.
In regards to fit, I have no idea about their lasts, but I generally take a certain size (42, UK8, US8.5/9) in most shoes, sneakers and boots, although this does obviously vary, and though the shop had run out of 42, they did have 41 which was a snug and 43 which was loose. I normally don't like to say it because it's too generalising, but I'd say these fit "TTS". That being said I could still wear the smaller size (41/UK7) and figured that they'll stretch enough through wear. Wore them home and no discomfort.
Overall, breddy gud and am looking forward to how they progress over the next few weeks.
Caveats:
This info will probably only matter to very few of you, however despite the fact that they say the insole is proper leather and not leatherboard/fibreboard, since this is a Blake/Rapid boot and not goodyear welted there's a midsole involed too.
The thing about B/R is not the quality of the insole, but rather what the mid-sole's made of, and I have no idea. Still, as I said, this is a small matter that will not concern most but I thought I'd put that out there. Considering the relatively low price of the boots the quality of the midsole is not really such an issue.

A cheaper, more easily attainable alternative to the slimmer, Viberg look.

right, cbf dumping anymore, but I'll just add that I'm gonna go for the day to singapore (or malaysia - depending on how i feel) for the day next week and am strongly thinking about picking up pic related instead of the vibergs,

There are some.
The closest being the Chevalier Captoe in their chromexcel series. An Indonesian shoemaker. Can take up to a month, +/-$300US

The Oak Street Bootmakers captoe trench boot. $450+

You can get a custom order from White's boots (one with an unstructured toecap) that can be close. Dunno how much this will cost all up.

The closest last I've seen is the Chevalier.
Difficult to get a response from the makers though; I'm still waiting on what kind of leather colours they have.

With Viberg it's nearly 800 bucks (perhaps more if you go custom), and a 4 or so months wait time.

OSB's trench is probably ready to buy now. Whites? I don't know how long they take to create a custom order. Chevalier? 1-2 months.

I had a look at a viberg service boot in person, and though I do like the overall profile, the finishing on it was not what I would have expected for something edging closer to a grand. Still, apparently their construction quality is top notch.

We'll see how it goes with Chev; I've got some other custom orders pending elsewhere, and if I still have the inclination to follow up with them (if they ever reply, that is) then I might just order a pair.

Interesting.
Thanks for the info. I live in that region - perhaps one day I'll think about getting some.
