What about Seiko? They make their own movements and assemble the watches in Japan (the more expensive models that is).

Yeah, don't buy a replica. It'll have next to no water resistance, the movement will probably be inaccurate, and you'll have no warranty. Chances are it won't last more than a few months. And trust me, if you're the type of person that buys replicas, it'll be really obvious. Not many people have a real Rolex.

The Seiko 5 series is a good place to break into watch ownership. They range from $60 to $300. I can highly recommend even their cheap watches. SNK809 is about $60 shipped. Change out the nylon band and you'll have yourself a fine watch.
