part of my contention with "goth ninja" is that a lot of designers that fall under the umbrella are myopic hacks. if they do have couture terminology in their vocabulary it's only because it's been filtered by someone with a broader scope. i mean, you don't have to self-consciously avoid what owens or karakubo or whoever is doing, and in fact doing so will only hurt your creativity, but come on, this is exactly what's wrong with mass market fashion. how can you innovate if you're only paying attention to what everyone else is doing?

i want to be a couturier when i grow up
