Those are very popular models that a lot of people enjoy but I have issues with both. I think the 5000U has a better design but the GMWB5000 has the better module. The 5000U has an inferior LED with uneven illumination and doesn't fade in and out, it lacks STN so the display is less crisp and legible, and doesn't have a DST table. The GMWB5000 has all that but it's a hunking piece of heavy metal. I would recommend a GW-B5600 which has the same module as the GMWB5000 except for the STN and unfortunately doesn't have a metal case and screwdown back. If you want a screwdown back and are grown up enough to realize solar and atomic and unnecessary you can get a DW-5000 series. If you want the best of both worlds you have to splurge on a titanium GMWB model. I just noticed all the models I recommend which happen to have the best balance of features are only used for limited editions. It's almost like Casio wants to save the best models and avoids giving them standard editions.
