This book actually kind of got through to me that you want pockets everywhere on your body because bags are impractical and you're using your entire body in zero-g; hands and feet become interchangeable after a while. It's not stated directly but a lengthy passage on Zero-G CQC and various clothing descriptions left me with this distinct impression.
I think a good emotion to work with when composing a fit is "Exhaustion" (although not necessary by any means). Anon mentioned the way the look elegizes without celebrating - I think that's important. Maybe these operators aren't heroes in the same sense as today's astronauts, but I feel like they're often overworked, stressed to their limits and somehow managing to carry on regardless. There's a casual heroism to it, these people have gotten over the majesty of it all, they're simply carrying on sometimes and their clothing can show it to great effect.
