Buy a special make-up from Brick + Mortar, Ealdwine, or Leffot. Alden puts more effort into them and my experience is those retailers will also check them before they go out. I’m at 10 pairs now and have never had an issue. I’ve had worse luck with C&J.

I bought an indy chukka (pic related) and I also have a ravello u-tip boot that I’m waiting for. At their current pricing I try to stick to handsewn models unless I really like the make-up.
