How do you get your scents to last longer?

I love Jo Malone fragrances but they are only produced as colognes. I get a slightly longer lasting effect if i spritz it onto my hair and clothes but I wonder if its bad for the health of my hair or clothing.

As an aside, how strongly do you feel about changing fragrances to suit weather? My favorite Jo Malone scents are light (Nectarine Blossom and Honey, Blackberry and Bay, Wild Bluebell) and seem best suited to the heat of summer. Its getting brisk now though and apparently I should be wearing 'warmer' or 'deeper' fragrances or something to reflect the change in weather, but I feel complete ambivalence towards the appropriate scents. I've always had a preference for light, airy, an *cool* scents. If any of that makes any sense to you.
