I got a non-brand version of the black canvas ones from sportsman's guide for like $25. They look just like palladiums except simplified, a little slimmer, and you can't button them down (not that anyone should). I put an insole in and they're pretty freaking comfy. Pic related is the first night I had them; the rubber is less shiny now and they look much better imo.

Not if both boots and pants have slim openings. Baggier pants are kind of iffy and chunkier boots are a no-go.

I got pic related for like $25 the other day. Haven't worn them for long yet but they're light and comfy, and I plan on waterproofing them so they can hold up to whatever beatings I give them.
I personally like the idea of a canvas boot a lot of done right. I don't need to be spending hundreds on beaters with my current salary, and they're unique-looking enough that it doesn't look like I just couldn't afford leather.
