a lot of their designs are minimal and wearable while still maintaining elements of avant garde.

theres a RO quote that i cant find where he says something like "it started with helmut lang, like a jacket that was normal to the outside world but had a hidden strap and it was enough to make you feel like a rebel but still be normal"

something to that effect.

which encapsulates a lot of my affection for raf and helmut. i can be wearing a simple raf sweater like pic related, and to the general public i am not outwardly different at all, but i know what the graphic means, i know what the collection it comes from represents and how it makes me feel; i know how much the simple cotton sweater is worth, how old it is etc.

aside from the combination of wearability and artistic edge, the clothes just look how i want clothes to look. i like sweaters, i like bombers, i like hoodies.

this thread has some of more of my thoughts on raf

in regards to raf post 09, i think he certainly has deteriorated. if you ignore the obvious drop in quality(moving production to Portugal) the awful and soulless collabs etc.

the collections themselves have been severely lacking since ss08, i think his last great collection was aw06.

idk who he makes clothes for anymore.
everything looks plastic, or like raf simons died and a team of prada employees is now designing for his label and trying to recreate what people liked in the first place.

i dont think theres anything wrong with changing direction and designing for a more menswear orientated aesthetic, foregoing the old youth/subculture/'for boys' clothes or anything. i think he did menswear perfectly in ss05, aw05, ss06 and aw06, idk why he didnt persist in that direction.
