idk i sort of hesitate to talk about cdg in any real depth since the line is over 40 years old and seems to have done so much but i'm only familiar w/ maybe 5 years (even then just barely) so i can't really say 'it's done this', because it's probably also done 'that' just as much.

but what i can contribute...
from the little i have seen i think rei contributed a lot to sort of pushing japan out of its more-less conservative shell in a really big way. Especially as a woman in the 1950s, having recently gone through ww2 and various other wars it's crazy to think about the inception of cdg.
that aside though, a lot of cdg is a bit sort of provocative and eccentric.
i think given the context of the time you put it more eloquently as 'almost-bizarre, overindulgent'.
again i havent really looked into it but i think it would be really interesting to see how japanese markets initially reacted to the line, because when i think about a lot of japanese culture now it's sort of weird. Like hyperforward thinking but still somewhat always pay homage to old tradition even though it seems so defunct. i think a lot of this can be tributed to cdg and its influence but idk...
i think im just naive and need to read more into it haha

i can't find the god damn image which had like these somewhat typical cdgph trousers but then out of no where on the back there's like this huge bright red tongue and on the ass cheek.
>this image will have to do.

also, i'm seriously getting the impression everyone in japan has at least 3 pieces of cdg or s/t and things come in like chips.
>tfw no wardrobe stacked w/ cdg
