I think I know what makes them work, i just don't have the right pair for me yet.

It's a combination of anatomical shaping through use or design coupled with one of a few types of pant legs.

You need a low-profile rounded toe ( A 'sharknose', pic related) and you either need pants that start wide and taper down to just slightly bigger than the bootshaft (if you have wide-shafted boots than don't hug your calves) OR you need boots that hug the calves and you need straight or form-fitted trousers.

Most of the Russian / slav boots have a box toe that doesn't lend itself to most fits.

I like mixing some military items in with my clothes so I don't believe they would be out of place in my wardrobe, but can they look good on someone under 6 feet?
