So I've been doing some thinking on costume design for movies and such. Obviously since movies are so visual the costume aids an inordinate amount in selling the character.

Now, taking that into account, are you building a character of how you want to be perceived by your clothing and what you choose to wear? Pushing that a bit further, why is it that some things really just don't work in real life (excluding social pressures)? Is it because visual media allows for absolute control of what is actually published- aka massive editing to remove any autism. Or, is it because you actually can wear anything, at any time, but you have to have the charisma and character to pull it off which most people just don't have.
