i've seen leather, or a ribbed sole.

a resole would probably cost the same amount as a new pair
cdb's are like sneakers in that it's pretty much expected that you just replace them when they wear out

i don't think they're well made enough to warrant a resole - cheap and ugly, but that's up to you whether or not the expense is worth not just buying a new pair. leather would be a stupid choice if you wear them frequently, since they'll last less than crepe and then you'd be looking at another resole.

Suede gets gross if you don't protect them first - some kind of spray.

If they're for wear in actually hot weather the suede would probably be better, but over time the beeswax will definitely look better. For example, this patina could never be achieved with suede - it's an extreme case, to be sure, but it's an example.

Rare to see the ambergolds, but then again I think it's because that model isn't sold in the US hence little coverage of them.

The beeswax always struck me as a kind of "babby's first boot" - and I use the term "boot" kinda loosely in that sense.

They're nice and comfy, but the whole thing is very overexposed if you have a problem with ubiquity.

I'm trying to figure out how this guy got that particular effect with the leather.

He's obviously worn them, hard, then applied some kind of wax, cream, oil or polish (or combination of such). I know that he's had them resoled with the ripple soles.
