The case was quite tall due to the vertically-oriented balance. Like all transistorized electronic watches, the timekeeping was still done by a hairspring. However, since the watch was powered by a battery rather than by a mainspring, there was no concern around isochronism, which often allows electronic watches from the period to be adjusted to quite impressive tolerances. In this watch the vertical orientation of the balance does change the effective positions that are most important to how the watch keeps time on the wrist.
