Would you rather own a limited wardrobe of expensive/brand items or a bigger wardrobe of cheaper stuff ? I've seen people pursue both, usually when they are first staring out.
I personally prefer cheaper stuff because I tend to wear plain items (solid colour shirts rather than anything graphic), with a few really nice pieces.
