well, where I'm from (finland) we have ~3 year long "vocational schools", where you can learn yourself a trade. Goldsmithing, blacksmithing, silversmithing, cook, carpenter, stuff like that. The vocational school is sort of a low-level education. Jewelry designing is also available, buts it's a higher level education. Propably will try to get in after I'm done with this school. Here it's also possible to study as an apprentice for a goldsmith, but I'm not really familiar with how the thing really works. I guess the system is something like that all over europe. No idea how the stuff works in the USA though, but I'll gladly tell you anything you want to know about this stuff. The ring in the pic is similar to the mokume ring I'm currently working on.
