It's weird that people associate this neon aesthetic so strongly with the 90s. This style was extremely short lived, emerging in 89, peaking in 1990 and all but entirely dead by 1992.

Even on the Fresh Prince, who's most people's strongest association with this style...Will only dressed like this in the first season from 1990. By 1991, the first episode of season 2 made a specific point to emphasize that the style was completely played out in favor of more muted tones and nubian inspired accessories. Will traded the Jordan's for Doc Martens and even hiphop styles took a more earthy and grunge inspired look.

It's just weird how one season, the first season in 1990, defined the entire decade in people's minds. 1990 was a weird year harboring in a new decade and the dominant styles were effectively exaggerated 80s leftovers.
