Vintage ones should be cared for, but modern Speedies are still 50m water resistant, which means that if you have had the gaskets checked, then you can take it swimming but not scuba diving. Since I haven't had mine serviced since getting it, I'm not going to get it near water, but then again I buy all my watches second-hand so who the fuck knows what it has seen.

The Mark 40 though can go in water if need be, because it was serviced last August. It's also 50m resistant. Bear in mind that water resistance is from gaskets, so the issue is whether or not gaskets are compromised.

Just buy what youf ucking enjoy. Wear it and smile when you lookdown at your wrist. Anything else is playing to an imaginary crowd. The watchmaerket is so shit and soft right now that you can get good bargains if you look hard enough. Stop using watches as status symbols and just buy the fuck what make syou smile...that's what i did. The 300 chronograph is on the way..fucking stuck in shipping righ nw. Who the fuck cares. Youc anget a shitty Rolex Cellini for less than a Turdor todayon Chrono24...that should tell you that a) the secondary market is has prices determiend by who wants what and how many of them there are and b) who is retiring and who is looking to sell off their 'valuable' collction. Fuck these boomeers...they think they can sell their collections and retire on that alone. No. The market is saturated with so much bullshit (two-tone datejustsand other Rolex degernerates, Longines that no one wants, Paneria, etc.) that you can get a good deal if you want somethign no one wants. If you want something everyone is TOLD to want (stainless-steele ROWLEX sportsmodelgecschichte) then the prices are high right now but everything else is dropping like hotcakes. Save, search, and buy ...now is the time as the boomers want to retire. They can be forced into prices that YOU want..YOU HAVE THE PAOWER!

If it uses the Cal. 3861, then it hacks.

>>15845206
Remember that getting ceramic to fire in red is ludicrously difficult, yet Rolex managed to get it done.

Yes, the 3861 is the 861 with a co-axial escapement and a few other features. METAS certified, hacking, etc. Probably thicker too, but only marginally so.

I might as well elaborate since the rest of the contributors have gone to sleep.

There are significant benefits to the Mark 40; to me it's the perfect 'everyday everyman's watch'. It's water resistant enough for light swimming, it's automatic winding, it has hacking seconds, a chronograph, a movement that can be regulated to within chronometer certifications, 24 hour counter, day-date-month, and sapphire crystal. It's small enough to look vintage on a large wrist and large enough to be legible on a small wrist. It's perfect for everyday and I wear it at work without a second thought. Furthermore, the 7751 Valjoux is far more efficient in winding than the Omega 1120 in the old Seamaster I used to wear, so I never have concerns about it being under 30% power reserve.

The vanilla Hesalite Speedy is a different watch, and in many ways technologically inferior. Hesalite instead of Sapphire, 6 beats per second instead of 8, manual wind instead of automatic, and the only complication it has is a chronograph that is technologically about 50 years old.

Both are cam operated and horizontal clutch.

Why did I get the Man on the motherfucking moon? Because I love the design. To me it's a 'pure' chronograph with perfect proportions on the dial, perfect legibility in low light situations, and it's tied to a history that is interesting to me (space-flight).

I don't know Anon...perhaps you should try one on. What I've found is that it's a special watch in a world of infinite designs.

Does that comfort you?
