I just want a simple, comfy, every day office shoe.

I don't want an oxford, a longwing, a loafer etc too complicated.
I just want a plain toe derby. I already own a suede PTB. Now I just want a dark brown calf one, something that's easy to pair with most things.

Why does it feel like a waste to spend so much money on such a "simple" shoe.
I'll probably wear it a lot more than my oxfords.

A friend of mine is a lawyer and she finally started her own office and is having a party at the office to celebrate next Saturday.

Should I dress up? Like a sport coat and oxfords?
Should I just wear cords and boots, maybe a shirt with a comfy wool sweater on top?
I don't want to be a slob between all the nice lawyer girls but I also don't want to stick out like a sore thumb.

When Americans buy import boots like Grant Stone from China do you really not have to go through the hassle + payment with customs?
Do you just allow Chinese imports freely, no questions asked?

For me there would be a delay, I'd sometime get a call and then have to pay many different flat flees plus a +24% VAT on the price. And the more I delay, the more I'd have to pay.
And it's a process. There's phonecalls to do. Emails to send. Payments to confirm. It's not seamless at all.
They might even call you to go to the customs office in person.

Do GYW shoes feel comfortable for you out of the box?

My most comfortable shoes felt oversized when I first put them on. I thought it's one size too long, or too wide.

Is this the trick? They must feel a little bit too large at first?

So I followed some youtuber's advice and used lighter color wax on my shoes to give them more "depth".
First of all I am surprised at how little difference it made to their color, the wax just doesn't do shit color-wise (for polish I used the proper darker color).
Secondly they got a really great shine so maybe the youtuber is right.
Thirdly the lighter color wax got into all the nooks and crannies of the leather and the stitching and it looks a bit like shit up close, I removed most of it but it wasn't easy and some is still there.

Overall not worth the effort.
