>Spent my entire life hating every aspect of myself
>Work out
>Get some minor plastic surgery
>Buy some expensive clothes
>A small group of extremely attractive girls walks by me
>They stare at me
>Assume they're doing it in a "Ew look at that circus freak" fashion because I got that a lot when I was younger
>Whatever
>Walk away
>Hear them say things like "Oh my God! He was so hot!" and "That sweater was so cute"
>Assume they're trying to make me hear them so they think I believe their lies

Why do people do this to me?

Honestly? It seriously, seriously fucking depends on how you look, PERIOD.

A good looking person will make even tacky clothes look alright.

For example, a 4/10 fatass won't look as good in a sleek, tailored, nice suit as much as a 9/10 muscular individual would. Granted, the 4/10 fatass would probably look better in the nice suit as opposed to some grease stained shit t-shirt and khaki shorts but you get the point.

As pretentious and ostentatious as this might sound, stop trying to conform to some idea in your head if you can't pull it off. Not everybody looks good in a certain outfit. Find everything that fits you, makes you comfortable, etc. WITHIN REASON. If you feel comfortable wearing grease stained t-shirts and khaki jeans, maybe you should just shop for something that makes you feel just as good but doesn't make you look like a creep ass motherfucker.

Everything should suit you. Not to get a bit off topic from clothing itself, but look into making yourself better in general. Not just in terms of personality but your body. Get on a skin routine (sunscreen included, this is important.), WORK OUT, get a nice haircut that suits you, find the right glasses that suit you if you need them, look into other accessories.

There's little things that can really boost you a bit. But should NOT be your main priority, these things include a nice tie, a fragrance, a watch, nice cufflinks, etc. Just little bits that really push you up.

And for the love of God, accept that very, very good looking people make up a tiny percent of the population. You probably don't look like a model, I don't look like a model, very few people look like that. Bring yourself down to Earth and realize a lot of effort into who you are as a person and how you present yourself puts you leagues above most people.

But yes, just shop around, find what your style is. Quality > Quantity.

At what age can somebody effectively wear a luxury watch and not look like an ostentatious douchebag?

e.g: 17 year old with a submariner, 19 year old with a patek philippe, 14 year old with a panerai, 20 year old with a A. Lange & Söhne

Where's the cut off point?
