Forestry, as in the study of forested landscapes for a variety of reasons (usually timber production) almost always requires a 4 year degree. while going to school you can easily get work in the private industry on on Forest Service crews, which will help you secure a job upon graduation. I made ~$17/hr while in college, and I now make $55k/yr + with free housing and a free truck, with this job secured before I had graduated.
Forestry != logging != tree work (arborist and powerline shit) != working in a mill. all of these are wildly different from one another, but people often mistake them for being the same. I never step foot in a mill, nor do I ever fall trees. Millworkers work in the mill, fallers fall trees, and loggers work the equipment. Foresters create legal packages and manage the landscape, selling the harvesting rights to a third party of fallers and operators to cut and ship the logs to a mill, which is processed by millworkers and shipped either overseas or to the local home depots and wood shops.

tl;dr go to school or be born into the industry, it's too expensive to train some random tardlet to do this work when they will just fuck up and leave. you also work in the freezing rain while climbing mountains and getting raped by wasps, so most days fucking suck major ass, other days are managable, and the rest are great.
