You're absolutely right about this. A lot of people that see mine think it's something like a 2014 or 2015, especially with all the fancy shit it does like swiveling headlights that lean into corners or the rings around the lights.

I also didn't like them much myself back when they were new, I thought they were pretty weird looking. But the design really grew on me in recent years so I finally got one.

I'm mixed. I think the pre facelift 3 series is pretty shit ugly but the facelift is aging elegantly, even I think it looks like a 2020 car. But I wouldn't call the 5 series too blobby, some pictures just don't do it justice. Having the larger 18" wheels on it to fill the arches really makes the car look more in scale with itself.
