I think the only strong case for having the arm pocket zipper pull down to open is so the pull tab doesn't rest outside of the rectangular piece of fabric that defines the pocket, thus breaking a visual line. This could be easily remedied by cutting that rectangle a bit different or using a zip with a smaller pull, I suppose. Or you could just say fuck it, and let ease of use carry the day.
Hidden pockets are probably best on the inside, where the bottom ribbing meets the body of the coat at the side seams, as the stitching and placement of your arms will be distracting.

The whole thing was pretty dead by 2002-3, imo. Raves are supposed to be quasi-legal freakshows in boarded up factories, not an excuse to drugs with children in outmoded pants and pay Ticketmaster for the privilege. I'm sure the realness is still out there somewhere, but it still feels like an idea whose time has passed.
