You cannot spot reduce. Fat is like water in a bathtub, you can add to it or drain from the whole thing but you cannot, say, just remove water from the head, or the feet of the tub. Not without artificial intervention.

It only sounds like a shitty excuse to certain people. I was dubious until it happened to me. For people used to eating when hungry, it can be tough realizing too late that suddenly we've been overeating and, in my case, gained over 50 lbs.
