the rough gist is
-seagull made the 1963 along with other models a long time ago in 1963(duh) for the chinese airforce
-after that the design was retired on seagull's side
-the design was then either licensed or copied by many grey watch factories in the south (red star, sugess etc), with seagull presumably still largely supplying the movements inside
-the watch sells extremely well overseas due to its charming design
-after like a decade of the 1963 being sold by everyone else and their mother, seagull seeing this big success decided to bring it back themselves, at much higher prices (since they are the original makers), along with another limited edition, unused 'plan B' 1962 design

at around the same time, a WUS user based in HK named Eddy decided to recreate *the* original-original seagull 1963 as close as possible and went to source factories to make it. His brand is now HKED and those look different

im.o it doesnt matter that much
seagull's one is much more expensive and also lacks the kino display caseback, that was an addon done by the 3rd party factories and not native to the design. Also, the more expensive ones are said to have better QC and less "crunchy" movement. There are many colourways, pandas, reverse pandas, all sizes from 38(original) to 42, small or big display window, acrylic or sapphire...

but i would recommend at least get the original size and acrylic (which gives a very distinctive vintage "bubble dome" look). Theres also 2 versions of the dial text as well
