Find good basics, good jeans, trousers, and simple low shoes and a pair of boots. A good coat and jacket. Buy quality, with focus on material, fit and colours. Bring some contrast or hue's that darken the appearance.
Stick to this, workout and eat simple but good and you won't have anything to complain about.

Personally I'd just buy some plain t-shirts and shirts in the sales after christmas, a pair of Common Projects, converse or vans. And some mid range jeans or trousers ($100-200). Keep it simple anon
