Anyway I can't really tell from the picture how curly your hair is. I'm assuming you have african ancestry so I'd say pretty aggressive curls.

I'm Jewish(Schmeckelsheckel)/ German so my curls are a little less aggressive like pic related

Usually I'd just let it grow to a length like seen in the picture and tell my barber to cut the sides and back very short and leave my hair alone on top ( except for maybe 1cm off the ends depends how long you want it yourself)

As for styling I use a wax or a matt clay from Uppercut Deluxe and basically just go berserk on the hair I have left till it looks like my original post.
