You're all missing the point. The reason Swatch did this was to get a new generation into lusting after watches. No one lusts after a Royal Oak after owning a ghost Swatch....but if a kid is gifted a moonswatch, they'll eventually be curious about 'the real thing'. That's all Omega needed...something to boost younger folk into their product. It's brilliant, and has already resulted in higher sales of Speedmasters (including at my AD). Now that there is a plan to send people back to the moon again (and the fact that kids love that sense of adventure), this can't go wrong. Omega has literally set up another 4 decades of sales for their Speedmaster.

The Blancpain was intended to do the same thing, though I'm not sure how well it'll succeed (the FF is far more expensive than the Moonwatch). Regardless, there's no point critiquing the MoonSwatch on the merits of it as a piece of horology. That's not its purpose or intent.

It's the gateway drug. Like offering people testdrives of cars or food samples at Costco. I think they're fun watches, and if I had more 'fun' in my life, I'd probably have a few. They're very light and easy to wear, the proportions are similar (but not identical) to real Speedys, and the colours are, to be blunt, 'happy'. It's a fun toy, not serious horology.

One could argue that the money is better spent if someone wants a watch, but that's where the argument finds its endpoint. People don't buy the MoonSwatch to tell time accurately over decades of ownership. They are buying a wrist accessory that has name cache, a nice design, and enough variety to be collectable and go with one's outfits.

I like them; they make me smile, and they'll make Swatch group even richer.
