cutting it all off would be counter intuitive I think.
just let it be messy for a month or two until you're a little longer length-wise, and then re-evaluate.

you could still get it edged up....idk; when my hair was short and I was younger, my dad always edged it up for me, but I don't edge mine anymore, since I want it to grow, etc etc (I'm also a woman, so there's that too.)

the sides seem like they always take a while to grow back, but thats just in my experience. so ymmv
