What do you mean by shorter than longer?
If by longer you mean longer than like half of your face, then it's always more versatile to have shorter hair, and I'm saying that as a guy with longer hair. Shorter hair is usually more practical, more versatile when it comes to different styles and formality, and most women have nothing against shorter hair.

I think in most cases long hair accentuates the "social outcast" or the "I don't give a shit" vibe. Whether that's good or bad depends on the style you want to achieve.
I personally have longer hair because I think it hides my subhuman face shape, and if I had a good face shape I'd get a really short haircut because of low maintenance.

tl;dr not worth it unless you really want the bonus points for looking edgy or like a hippy stoner
