one bit i've heard of is pocket inserts. Notice the way your joints naturally move. The outside of your elbow, your knee caps, toes, hips, butt, shoulders, hands, upper back, outside of the ankles, are all going to be the first things to get hit by pavement.
These areas are tricky to protect;
>shoulders
>butt
>upper back
Alot of good bike jakets have padded shoulders. It can look neat with a shorter jacket.Sort of 80's Akira-esque. You can sew in, or even rivet in, some extra leather. [fabric stores, thrift store wallet, taxidermy places]
Your butt is really tricky. This is wherechaps fail 100% of the time due to no butt cover. Chaps were intended to fend off sage brush and thorns, not pavement. Bikes who wear chaps instead of knees guards are idiots [aka Harley's customer base]. So, chain belts, pocket plates, are known.
Your upper back is saved by a leather yoke in the jacket.

the smallest you'd ever want is a 50cc scooter - which is fine for cities and suburbs. You'd not want to go 30mph on a highway as a safety issue and because it's a dick thing to do to other drivers, but they're as practicle as anything. Most of the world used 125cc. Anything over 250cc is purely for the US market. America's bike world is weird in many ways. Right now in India they buy 10 bikes for each single car, and the Honda Activa is their best seller by far.
