No complaints, though absurdly busy. How are you Anon? What are you wearing today, Fren?

>been wearing my 1861 a hell of a lot lately...don't know why, I just like it.

Hey BitterAnon! Great to see you. What are you wearing today Fren?

I'll dispute one of your many incorrect points in detail because I think it's a misunderstanding that so many Anons get into when they first consider used watches. Here's why I suggest buying bottom-tier and then servicing.

1) New-Old-Stock 1861s still exist, but they command around 7k on the open market. Understandable, but unfortunate because the watch isn't worth that. So, Anon could just pay the price or just save a little more and get the new 3861 which is a better watch. That's why going NOS 1861 is a bad value proposition.
2) Box and papers do not aid in establishing authenticity in resale due to two things: box and papers are forged cheaper and easier than the watch itself, and the watch itself doesn't have any current copies that are believable (unlike say Panerai). Therefore, box and papers become an unnecessary addition. If you want them, no problem, but it will cost extra. The Anon requesting is looking for the cheapest option that offers the most.
3) If NOS will command 7, but the cheapest from Japan is 4, then adding 900$ (not 1000$ minimum...remember, I've done this before) brings Anon to 4900. If we round it up to 5k, it's still a savings of 2. Are box and papers worth 2k?
4) If Anon buys 'lightly used', he will have to service it regardless because EVERY used watch sold needs to be serviced as a baseline. I have only bought one watch used where the seller was accurate about the servicing (including the servicing bill, the place they serviced it at, and of course my watchmaker opening the back to confirm). All the other ones claimed that the watch was 'serviced', but they all needed servicing regardless anyway, out of my pocket. So if you buy grey and it's not brand new, ASSUME you need to service. You need to have that calculation in your price.

You're not old Anon. At 30, the world starts to change from your perspective, and it stops being driven by the same instigators. Then you find out more about what you value, and things begin to turn. It's a different path, but still one in life. Enjoy every day.

>nothing special
I disagree, it is something special. You got it after you graduated when you got a job. That has meaning. It's an Explorer, which to some people is an ideal or grail piece, and it's a favorite of many people over many generations. Nothing wrong with that and very special when compared to the millions of designs that have come out. I agree with you though; spend time with friends irl. /wt/, like WUS or any other forum, just fills in the gaps. Still, I value your posts Anon.

Glad to hear it!

I like labels too; it helps me determine what is dangerous and what isn't. What are you wearing, Anons?

You may see a different perspective as you get older Anon. Marriage is very complicated, for both parties involved.

>since y'all were clamoring for new pics; I took a macro of the 1861 dial. An Anon was talking about the subdials in the last thread, so this shot shows a bit of that of the older models. The dials had changed slightly over the course of the 1861's lifespan..mine is from the early 2000s I think.
