It pains me how the Swiss successfully managed to trick everyone into thinking that quartz is inherently soulless and not horologically significant.
They managed to find a way to run electricity through a rock to make it vibrate exactly 36000 times a second and to then measure that and have it advance a second hand by one tick. It's really cool and interesting. And in the beginning watches wore the quartz label with pride because it was space age technology and watches were beautifully designed to show it off. That quartz timekeeping managed to bring beyond-COSC horological excellence to the masses for a fraction of the cost of mechanicals is also an achievement. It's the absolute democratization of timekeeping.
