i wear flat shoes maybe 60% of the time; before buying my wedges, i had worn heels maybe 15 times total. the heels i wear most often are my rick wedges, which are 5" with a 1" platform. the first day i got them i spent 10+ hours on my feet nonstop walking around downtown in them with no discomfort other than what would naturally come about in a shoe with a hard leather insole.

it's not about heel height, it's not about how many times you'v worn heels, it's about how well the shoe balances your arches and supports your feet. it's about stride. cheap shoes with poor arch support are going to damage your feet--no contest. i'm not really getting why this is such a contentious point. go try on some really nice heels, ask a podiatrist about your feet. this doesn't/shouldn't have to be a painful thing for you.
