I don't know the precise words for it but yes, the watch strap does stretch (pic related).
It was the watch of my great grandfather. He got it in the 60's as a gift thanks to some deals he made (he was a businessman). We found it in a drawer a few years ago so my parents had it repaired and gave it to me as a birthday gift (I was 16 back then).
I think I'm going to buy a new strap for it. I like the current one but unfortunately it is scratched (you can see it on the pic).
